A STUDY ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TEACHING LISTENING AT THE THIRD YEAR OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN PURWODADI ACADEMIC YEAR 2007-2008
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This paper explains about the implementation of teaching listening at the third year students of
Senior High School in Purwodadi academic year 2007-2008. The object of research is the
implementation of teaching listening which is conducted in Senior High School in Purwodadi
especially at the third year. The objective of this research is to know the implementation of
teaching listening in Purwodadi, to know the effectiveness of the technique used in teaching
listening, and to know the problem of students in learning listening. To achieve those objectives
the writer collects the data from Senior High School in Purwodadi by observation, interview,
questionnaire, and documentation to be analyzed. Based on the result of data analysis, the
writer finds that the implementation of teaching listening in Purwodadi still uses conventional
method although the method is enough effective. This can be seen at the number of students
who get score 6 (16%), score 7 (71%), score 8 (13%), and score 9 (0%) at the early semester.
At the end of the research, students who get score 6 become 9%, score 7 (63%), score 8 (25%),
and score 9 become 3%. Meanwhile, students who get problem with vocabulary are totally
24%, speed of sound 17%, pronunciation 6% and all category 53% respondents. Besides that,
the materials which are used in teaching-learning process consists of the exercises. In this
case, the teacher sometimes takes the score of students to evaluate the result of teachinglearning
process.
