ABSTRACT
Hospital efforts to provide quality health care is strongly influenced by job satisfaction and
performance of service providers, including the nurses. Some studies say, that job satisfaction
supported by professional nursing career ladder system. This paper describes the basic
concept of nurses career ladder system, the application of nursing career in other countries
and in Indonesia as well as the results of research on the impact implementation career
ladder system of nurse job satisfaction and performance. The conclusion of this paper is the
application of a career ladder system at several hospitals in Indonesia is proven to increase
job satisfaction and quality of health services, particularly in nursing services. This paper
should be taken into consideration for hospitals manejemen to perform system structuring
professional career paths in nurses to increase job satisfaction and performance.
